Michigan Rummy Rules
Michigan rummy is a version of Rummy 500 and involves using both cards and chips. The game is best with 3 to 8 players.
Set Up
The game uses a standard 52 card deck as well as some betting chips. The game also comes with a board marked with 4 different spaces Ace of hearts, K of clubs, Q of diamonds and J of spades. Before the deal all players must bet 1 chip on each of these areas, the dealer must place two.
The dealer deals clockwise and deals all players plus a spare hand (So if there are 5 people the dealer deals 6 hands) until the cards are gone. Every turn the person who is in charge of dealing passes around the table clockwise.
Play
The person to the left of the dealer starts. This person can play any suit as long as they play the lowest card that they hold of that suit. Whoever has the next highest card then plays their card and so on, until no one can play a higher card from the same suit.
The card that was last played is called the stop card and the person who played that card can start the next round, by placing a low card from another suit on the table.
If at any time a player plays an Ace of hearts, K of clubs, Q of diamonds or J of spades they receive the chips on that space on the board.
When the first player goes out all other players must count their cards and give that person 1 chip for each card they still have.
Spare Hand
After the deal, but before the play the dealer can exchange their hand for the spare hand, provided they do not look at the spare hand before making that decision.
The Dealer can also auction off the spare hand to the highest bidder in which case the person who gets the spare hand pays the dealer a set amount of chips and exchanges their hand for the spare hand.
Winning
The person with the most or all of the chips wins.
