Families have been playing games since the dawn of time. It has allowed families to get closer as well as help educate kids and give them a competitive spirit. And of course lets not forget it is a way to maintain inexpensive fun.
Now that we have talked a little bit about why family game nights are important lets talk about how to go about setting one up.
It may take some convincing to get your kids on board with the idea of a family game night, but after a while you may find your kids are looking forward to game night as much as you.
If you really want set up a game night here are a few simple steps to take.
1. Set up a scheduled time and date to do your family games. For example say you decide you are going to have a game night every Monday at 8:00. This is the very first step.
2. Find games to play, if you already have some old games stanched away in the closet somewhere this is a good place to start. If you dont, never fear you can always buy a game very inexpensively. We also list the best family games on this site.
3. Set someone in charge. By setting someone in charge you can build their confidence and help them grow. You can also make each individual in charge of organizing a certain game and rotate the games periodically.
4. Announce it before it happens. If you are planning to have a game night at 8:00 dont go into your kids room at 7:59, turn off their computer, and drag them out. Give them early warning so they can finish whatever it is they are doing and then come.
The game you play doesnt matter as much as much as the fact that you are all getting together and bonding with your children. You can always play the classic games like monopoly and clue, or you can play some lesser known games like Settlers of Catan and Kill Dr lucky.
